What is Entreprenurship?
Entrepreneurs defy categorisation but the fundamental role of
entrepreneurs is to instigate change. Most people associate
entrepreneurial change with the new ideas and processes that drive
technological and economic development. But entrepreneurs are not just to
be found in the business word they are also the driving force behind
social change in society. The key characteristic of the entrepreneur,
is need to achieve. In sum entrepreneurs are people who believe that
things could be better.
The Graduate Entrepreneur
Entrepreneurship is the key to innovation and growth in the modern global
economy. In this competitive environment education is essential for
successful venture initiation particular in the high tech
sector. Increasingly graduate entrepreneurs are the driving force behind
Ireland's most innovative new enterprises. The founding members of
successful companies such as Iona Technologies,
Nua and ESAT are all
university graduates.
DCU is committed to providing its graduates with the necessary skills and
expertise to become successful entrepreneurs and intrapreneurs. Each year
over 400 students undertake modules in New Enterprise Development (NED) at
DCU, many in interfaculty teams.
